Recent years have been especially difficult at the local animal shelters as record numbers of animals have been abandoned or surrendered. The Roosevelt Animal Shelter made a call to the community to “Please keep your dogs home” as they are “beyond max capacity!” The announcement stated that “owners may claim their animal within 5 business days of the animal’s arrival. Proof of ownership can include, but is not limited to; Microchip, Vet records, Bill of sale, Photos, Registration papers, etc…If the animal is not claimed within that time, it will then be evaluated and may be posted for adoption and/or rescue.” The Roosevelt Animal Shelter has also announced that pet food is needed. “Not only does our shelter feed over 1000 animals that come through our doors every year but we also offer a free pet food pantry for public members in need,” shares the announcement. “Unfortunately, we currently have no food in our pantry.” Anyone wishing to donate can drop off pet food anytime during business hours or just leave the donation by the shelter’s front door.
