The Uintah High School Hope Squad was one of just a few groups in the state recognized this week at a Utah Jazz game as part of the 2024 Show Up Service High School Challenge. First Lady Abby Cox and Utah Jazz owner Ashley Smith hosted them at the game with dinner on the top floor of the Delta Center to celebrate their service and some of the students were invited onto the floor as well for the group to be recognized. Uintah School District shares that for their project, the Uintah High Hope Squad helped with the Vernal “Out of Darkness” suicide prevention walk on September 21st. Hope Squad members arrived before the walk to set up signs, set out suicide prevention information, and help participants as they arrived. Hope Squad was also in charge of passing out honor beads – beads of different colors that represent groups of people who have lost loved ones to suicide or who have struggled with suicidal thoughts themselves. The Uintah Hope Squad was one of only four clubs or teams in the state out of more than 40 that submitted projects to be selected for the honor.
