A Winter Storm Watch is in effect through Friday evening for higher elevations. Uintah County Emergency Management shared details of the storm watch stating that heavy snow is possible above 8000 feet and total snow accumulations could be between 7 and 14 inches with locally higher amounts possible. The Winter Storm Watch is for the Eastern Uinta Mountains. “Travel could be very difficult to impossible,” shares the announcement. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.” All are urged to take precautions and be prepared for the change in weather. Be sure to check tires and travel with proper supplies in your vehicle in case of travel problems. Have an emergency car kit. Slow down and leave more room between cars. It’s a good idea to have a new battery, check tires and brakes, make sure windshield wipers are good, and keep extra wiper fluid in the vehicle. In addition to preparing your vehicle, be sure to stay aware of the weather by listening to forecasts, road reports and storm warnings. Be sure to tell someone where you are going and when you are expected to return. Stay in your vehicle if stuck or lost in a winter storm, and keep the winter car kit accessible in your vehicle.
