A massive team of professionals are working around the clock to protect structures and communities from the spread of the Yellow Lake Fire and the Forest Service has given a shoutout to some of the unsung heroes among that group. The Weber Basin Job Corp team is putting in long days to ensure that hot meals are waiting for the firefighters when they return from the fireline. The U.S. Forest Service Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest has shined a light on this program in the Job Corp that teaches members how to work as a team and care for the land in preparation for them to train in careers such as wildland firefighting and forestry conservation. “Having these students out here with us is a point of pride,” shares Forest Supervisor Dave Whittekiend. “This is also an opportunity for them to serve in their own backyard. While they may be training in different fields, this is an opportunity for them to see ‘behind-the-scenes of the firefighters’ job.” Job Corp offers trades, including maintenance, welding, culinary, carpentry, electrical, forestry, and advanced dispatch. The unsung heroes include members of all trades serving both fire camps to support the Yellow Lake Fire crews.
