A very special group of athletes will make their way down Main Street in Vernal today for the 2017 Special Olympics torch run. This year the athletes will be on bikes and riding on a firetruck between the Uintah County buildings starting at 2:30, heading west and ending at Wendy’s by 3:00pm. “It is just fun to stop and watch,” shares event sponsor Brett Reynolds of Guild Mortgage. “We make a lot of noise and parade down Main Street. The athletes love it and it really is fun to watch.” Some of the athletes kicked off the games on Wednesday this week during the swimming competition held at the Uintah Community Center. The track and field events will be held next Wednesday at the Uintah High School track where there will be fun for everyone. The event will run from about 9 to noon. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office will be there helping with the food and local realtors will have a carnival set up for kids. Come support this year’s olympians at the 2017 Special Olympics Summer Games on May 17th.
