The judge has denied the release of the 16-year-old who was charged as an adult with the murder of his stepbrother last month. Haegan Sagers attended his bail hearing at the Split Mountain Youth Center on October 10th where his attorney advocated for his supervised release. KSL reports that Sagers’ attorney, John Easton, said the boys had “wrestled” over the gun before 14-year-old Malaki Porter was shot and killed. Prosecutor Michael Goodrich emphasized that the word “wrestle” was not found anywhere in the statements or reports. Rather, he said Sagers told investigators that he was angry at Porter and wanted to hurt him, though not kill him, and then pulled the trigger. The judge denied the request of Sagers’ attorney for supervised release. A preliminary hearing for Sagers is scheduled in the Duchesne District of 8th District Court on October 23rd.
