There’s a new Sheriff in town in Daggett County after the Daggett County Commission approved the Republican Committee’s recommendation on Friday. The post had been left empty after Sheriff Jerry Jorgensen submitted his resignation in April in the midst of the Daggett County Jail scandal. His replacement, Erik L. Bailey of Ogden, was sworn into office to finish out Jorgensen’s term. Bailey has served in law enforcement for over 25 years. He has worked for the Utah Department of Corrections, the Syracuse Police Department, the Utah Transit Authority Police Department, and most recently the Grantsville City Police Department. Sheriff Bailey was sworn in by Judge Charlene Hartmann on Friday. He met with available staff immediately after the ceremony, sharing his vision for the Sheriff’s Office and Daggett County Jail. “I look forward to rebuilding the trust of the community, law enforcement, and the state of Utah,” shared Sheriff Bailey. According to the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office, his positive views and willingness to roll up his sleeves and get to work for the people of Daggett County is obvious and well received.
