Roosevelt Jr. High School was placed on lockdown on Thursday at around 1:00pm after Roosevelt City Police Department was made aware of a warning that had been circulated regarding threats of a shooting at the Roosevelt Jr. High School. “Officers were able to identify and make contact with the suspect and after investigating, determined that the threat was not credible,” shares Roosevelt PD. “The threat that was circulated had been found online by the suspect, then was updated to specifically target Roosevelt Jr. High School.” Police have thanked the members of the public who brought the threat to their attention and encourage anyone who encounters threats like this to report them to the police immediately. They also encourage parents to talk with their teenagers about the dangers of making and sharing threatening statements in person or online. “Roosevelt City Police Department takes these threats very seriously, and per state law (76-5-107.1) suspects can and will be charged with up to a third-degree felony, even if the threat isn’t deemed credible. The Roosevelt City Police Department will remain vigilant and continue to monitor for threats to ensure the safety of Roosevelt students and families.”
