Members of the Uintah Basin Cattlemen Association aren’t the only ones that take livestock harassment seriously. An instance of livestock harassment on Taylor Mountain last August resulted in charges and a conviction. According to Richie Anderson with the cattlemen association, an individual was on an ATV and struck several livestock. The incident was videoed and shared online. “Many cattle ranchers in the Basin rely on public lands for grazing away from their home space,” shares Anderson. “In order to make that feasible we have to rely on the public that our livestock will be safe. It becomes very expensive for ranchers when livestock are injured or killed.” This month, 3 different head of livestock owned by three different ranchers were shot in the area west of Lapoint (Bennet area). The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the killings and a $3,000 dollar reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the responsible party. Those with any information on the shootings that took place on or around Tuesday, May 9th, are asked to contact the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office at 435-789-2511.
