Vernal Police confirmed Monday evening that no active threat was found and that during their response they were informed of a bomb threat made earlier in the day to another business in Vernal City. Vernal PD also reported that Roosevelt Police responded to a similar bomb threat within their jurisdiction. The following is the media release from Vernal PD:

On September 2, 2024, at 15:19 hours Central Dispatch received a call from an employee at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Store, located at 1025 West US 40. The employee reported receiving a threatening phone call from an unknown individual who claimed that a package in the store contained a bomb. In response to the call, the Vernal Police Department and Vernal Fire Department immediately responded to the scene. To ensure the safety of all individuals, the O’Reilly Auto Parts Store was evacuated along with surrounding businesses. Following an investigation, we have determined that there was no active threat to the O’Reilly Auto Parts Store or the surrounding community. During the response to this incident, authorities were also alerted to a delayed bomb threat made earlier in the day to another business within Vernal City. Police have investigated this secondary threat and similarly determined that there was no active threat to that business either. We are also aware that the Roosevelt City Police Department responded to a similar bomb threat within their jurisdiction at the same time. These incidents are under investigation as we work to identify the individual(s) responsible for these threats. Those found responsible for making such threats will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which includes felony charges. We appreciate the swift response and cooperation of local businesses and residents during this situation. The safety and security of our community remains our top priority.
