Teens Ejected In Highway 40 Crash; Driver Killed, Passenger In Critical Condition

Two teens were ejected in a crash on Highway 40 near Vernal on Tuesday afternoon with one suffering fatal injuries and the other in critical condition. Utah Highway Patrol reports that at approximately 12:17 p.m. August 27, 2024, a silver Honda Sedan was traveling westbound on SR-40 milepost 136 when it drifted left, crossed the centerline, and continued across two eastbound lanes before colliding with a metal barrier. The impact caused the vehicle to roll down an embankment, ejecting both occupants. The 19-year-old male driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The 18-year-old female passenger was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Witnesses reported observing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. The incident is currently under investigation.
