A 21-year-old woman has been life flighted to a Wasatch Front hospital for serious injuries after being hit by a car and dragged. The victim’s mother shared with Evans Family Media that the accident took place around 11am on Tuesday at the intersection by the Rec Center. The victim was riding an electric bike when she was hit and dragged several blocks down 500 South in Vernal. She also shared that the young lady was screaming so loud that the residents on 500 South could hear the screaming. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and drove away. The victim has a fractured neck and elbow and severe road rash. Vernal Police released the following information on the incident on Tuesday evening:
Bicyclist Struck and Dragged by Vehicle; Suspect Apprehended After Investigation
On August 13, 2024, at 10:40 a.m., Vernal City Officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle striking a bicyclist at the intersection of 500 South Vernal Avenue. Witnesses reported that the bicyclist was struck by the suspect vehicle and dragged approximately three blocks before the vehicle fled the scene.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Ashley Regional Medical Center and subsequently airlifted to a hospital in the Salt Lake area.
Vernal Police Officers and Detectives were able to locate the suspect vehicle in a local apartment complex. A person of interest was detained and taken into custody.
The investigation is ongoing. The status of the 21-year-old female Vernal resident is currently unknown. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family.
