A Maeser subdivision has been evacuated with SR-121 closed due to a fire that started
Friday afternoon
. According to fire PIO Don Jakes, the Maeser Highway Fire was reported
at 1:40pm
located near the gravel pit off the LaPoint Highway. As of
Friday afternoon
the blaze was 75 acres and running with strong winds spreading it from the southwest. Yellow Hills Subdivision has been evacuated and the fire is being attacked by all local resources including Vernal, Lapoint, Naples, as well as state, BLM, Forest Service and the BIA. A heavy air tanker as well as several smaller air tankers are battling the fire. The cause is unknown and more information will be shared once it is made available.
