Browne Lake Campground Closure Due to Bear Activity

by | Aug 6, 2024 | News | 0 comments

The Browne Lake Campground on the Flaming Gorge Ranger District is temporarily closed while wildlife officials try to handle a nuisance bear in the area. The Ashley National Forest shares that there have been multiple reports of a bear visiting campsites and demonstrating aggressive behavior. Wildlife officials have set a live trap during the closure to catch the bear. “The campground will remain closed while trapping efforts are completed,” shares the announcement. “Additional reports have been received of a bear in the nearby Long Park Reservoir area. UDWR has placed a second trap west of the reservoir off of Forest Service Road 815. Visitors within these areas are advised to be conscious of potential bear activity, and practice Bear Aware techniques.” Remember, bears are attracted to campsites where food is not safely stored or disposed of so always store your food out of reach after each use and never feed a bear.
