The man in custody following a double shooting on Thursday has been identified. 21-year-old Jayson John Dean is a Vernal resident who recently relocated from California. He is being held on two counts of attempted homicide. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received calls of shots fired at 6:30am on Thursday at a residence located at 666 South 2500 West. Two adult males, ages 18 and 19, received serious injuries from the gunshot wounds allegedly at the hand of Dean. “At this time it is believed that the altercation began when Dean suspected the victims of taking property from him,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “It is also believed that there was a party at the residence the night before where all the involved parties were present.” The investigation is ongoing. Drugs and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the incident.
