Wolves Supplying Colorado Will No Longer Come From Washington Tribes

Colorado’s plans to bolster and grow the state’s wolf population has hit a bump in the road. The tribes in Washington that originally agreed to provide the wolves for Colorado’s reintroduction program are no longer willing to participate. A letter to Colorado Parks and Wildlife from the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation explained that they will no longer participate after learning that the State of Colorado did not consult with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe about the wolf reintroduction. It had been originally agreed between Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Colville Tribes to provide up to 15 wolves this upcoming winter season but plans for adding more wolves to those already in Colorado will have to wait until a new partnership can be formed.
