The Centers for Disease Control has confirmed that there have been human cases of avian flu in Colorado. There have been a total of 5 human cases, all of which were workers at poultry farms. State Epidemiologists believe the human cases are the direct result of working with infected poultry. Symptoms of Avian Flu include fever, cough, sore throat, eye redness, shortness of breath, and more. To be best protected from the virus, wear protective clothing like gloves, masks, and goggles combined with washing hands throughout the day and cleaning areas that may have come in contact with animals. None of those infected in the Colorado cases needed to be hospitalized.
