Perfect Window Opening for Fishing Mountain Lakes

The July 4th weekend is the perfect time of year for fishing mountain lakes in northeastern Utah. The Division of Wildlife Resources reports that water levels should drop by the July 4th weekend and a visit to the backcountry and a cool mountain lake would be the perfect escape from the heat. Lakes in the Uinta Mountains, Currant Creek Reservoir, East Park Reservoir, and Long Park Reservoir are recommended in the coming weeks. DWR Sports Fishery Coordinator Randy Oplinger recommends fishing early in the morning or later in the day when trout are most active. If you enjoy fishing with bait, nightcrawlers are usually the best bait to use. And if you haven’t gotten a bite within 20 minutes, change what you’re doing. Try a different fly, lure or bait or move location. For more information on fishing at high elevation lakes, visit www.wildlife.utah.gov.
