Drier Weather Brings Near Critical Fire Weather Conditions

Fire officials ask that all citizens remember to use Fire Sense while celebrating the Independence Day holiday. Fireworks are always illegal on federal lands and officials are encouraging citizens to enjoy public firework shows and not take unnecessary risk with fireworks though there are no additional fire restrictions in place in northeastern Utah.

The need for caution is legitimate. A Fire Weather Watch was put into effect on Tuesday for most of Uintah County, some of Daggett County, and a good chunk of northwestern Colorado listing the dangers of gusty winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels. The official Fire Weather Watch was eventually canceled on Tuesday but dry and warm conditions are expected to persist through the holiday weekend. Utah Fire Info lists northeastern Utah as having moderate fire conditions that could mean that fires in open cured grasslands will burn briskly and spread rapidly on windy days. Stay informed on weather conditions and use caution during all activities this weekend.
