A rotenone treatment is scheduled to begin today within the Ashley National Forest
Carter and Sheep Creek drainages as part of a DWR native cutthroat trout restoration
project. “This rotenone treatment will be June 25th through June 26th,” shares the
announcement. “An area closure is being issued to allow ground crews to work safely in
and around the treated waters without harm or injury to the public. All use of the water
[including wading, fishing, and swimming] within the project area will be prohibited.
This rotenone treatment is to rid all species of fish in those streams, ponds and tributaries
to restore native Colorado River cutthroat trout.” The closure area is within 20 feet of
East Carter Creek and the portion of Sheep Creek Irrigation Canal above National Forest
