The Utah leg of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage included stops in the Uintah Basin. The Intermountain Catholic newsletter shared this week that the pilgrimage began May 17th and entered Utah from Idaho on May 31st. A special stop on the Uintah and Ouray Reservation took place on June 4th and included a mile-long procession through the Reservation that ended with Mass at the Fort Duchesne Community Center. First the group gathered at the Ute Tribal Plaza and Jerry C. Tapoof welcomed them on behalf of the Ute Tribe. Tapoof blessed them first in the Ute language and then in English. He gave the group a traditional tribal blessing using a lit length of braided sweetgrass. The group then walked to the Fort Duchesne Community Center for Mass. Another procession took place in the Uintah Basin that day with the walk ending at the St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Vernal. Parishioners from Catholic congregations throughout the region joined in on these demonstrations of their faith. The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage is one of the final events of the National Eucharistic Revival that began in 2022 and lasts three years.
