Vernal City is continuing the conversation on the possibility of acquiring the Lamplighter Inn property in downtown Vernal from 100 East to 200 East on Highway 40. Vernal City has been exploring the purchase of the Lamplighter property through a federal grant for the past 4 years. In 2022, they learned of soil contamination caused decades ago by a dry cleaning business on the adjacent property that requires cleanup, including on the Lamplighter block. With the property in a state of blight and now with the environmental cleanup required, Vernal City has welcomed the public’s input as they consider options of acquiring the property, including the possibility of condemnation. On June 5th, a public meeting was held and a large group of community members attended to learn about and give input on the options being considered by Vernal City. An information packet was handed out at the meeting and can be downloaded through a post on the Vernal City Facebook page. This topic is on the Vernal City Council agenda for this Wednesday at 6pm at Vernal City Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
