Scout camp is for more than learning survival skills. For the scouts ages 12 to 15 from the Vernal Utah Stake, scout camp this year provided an opportunity to give loving service that is delighting local kids when they need it most. The 85 scouts spent hours carefully painting over 100 model cars, planes and trucks that were then donated to DCFS and are already being given to kids that pass through the doors of Child and Family Services. DCFS representative Matt Watkins reported that the children were ecstatic by their new toys and that “he hopes service like this will become a trend for scouting and religious groups in the area to make personalized items for these children to receive during the difficult days they have to go through.” Watkins also said there is a constant need for foster families in the Basin with between 150 to 200 youth in the program but only around 50 homes willing to take them in. Those wanting to know more about how they can help are encouraged to contact DCFS.
