Local shelters that are already at capacity continue to be swamped with stray and abandoned animals and a discovery Sunday evening took this difficult situation from bad to worse. The Roosevelt Animal Shelter reports that 25 dogs ranging from 6 months old to seniors were picked up in the Neola area. “A driver in the area almost hit the dogs and alerted law enforcement, who picked them up and brought them to the shelter,” shares the announcement. “6 other dogs were also brought in from surrounding areas last night. Many of the dogs that were brought in have major medical concerns, as well as matted hair and other grooming needs. At this time the facts of the situation are unknown, but it is suspected that the animals may have been driven to the area and abandoned. The Roosevelt Animal Shelter is beyond max capacity, and due to the needs of these dogs, [it is] anticipated that most of them will be going to 501C3 rescues and will not be put up for adoption at [the Roosevelt Animal Shelter].” Those in the Neola area are asked to watch for any additional dogs that may have been abandoned.
