A 14-day public scoping period began on Monday for the Dinosaur National Monument Fire Management Plan. “An updated Fire Management Plan will inform the management and use of wildland fire in the monument for years to come,” shares Michael Guarino, Dinosaur’s Fire Management Officer. “We look forward to the public’s input on these early stages of the plan’s revision.” Monday’s announcement stated that the FMP was last updated in 2004 and an updated plan will provide a framework and parkwide guidelines for the management of all wildfires, regardless of cause, size, or complexity. It will also provide guidance on the use of prescribed fire and non-fire fuels treatments to reduce hazardous fuel loading and accomplish resource protection objectives.
