Community members lined Highway 40 in Vernal Thursday evening to welcome home the Vernal police officer shot multiple times while responding to a call on April 27th. A long line of lights and sirens traveled ahead of and behind Sergeant Chad Watt and his family as they traveled through town on their way home from an almost 2 week hospital stay at a Wasatch Front hospital. Sergeant Watt is a 25-year veteran who has dedicated his entire career serving Vernal City. Local law enforcement utilized social media on Thursday to spread the word that Sergeant Watt was returning home to continue his recovery and invited all to line the streets to offer a honk and a wave of support. They responded in force with groups waving American flags and all showing their gratitude for the sacrifice that law enforcement makes to ensure public safety. Welcome home Sergeant Watt!
