The identity of the Santaquin police officer killed in the line of duty on May 5th has been released along with a basic update on the suspect. A press conference held on Monday shared that the officer killed was Sgt. Bill Hooser who leaves behind a wife, two daughters, sons-in-law, and a new granddaughter. During the press release, it was stated that 41-year-old Michael Aaron Jayne was pulled over during a traffic stop before driving away. He headed northbound a short distance, turned around the wrong way, then intentionally hit Sgt. Hooser with the semi. After a sequence of stealing multiple vehicles, Jayne was eventually located in Vernal on Sunday where he fled from officers at high speed before crashing. He was brought into custody and transported to a hospital and was still in the hospital at the time of the press conference. A GoFundMe account has been set up to benefit Sgt. Hooser’s family under the name ‘Honoring Sergeant Bill Hooser of Santaquin, UT’.
