The opportunity for higher education in the Uintah Basin continues to grow with
scholarships helping pave the way forward for all students. Uintah Special Service
District 1 is among the largest contributors to these local scholarships and a special check
presentation ceremony was held this week to continue that tradition. SSD1 Executive
Director Cheryl Meier presented Utah State University and UBTech with checks for
$300,000 dollars each towards scholarships for higher education during the Vernal Area
Chamber luncheon on Tuesday. Meier also discussed the role of the district and various
projects coming up and programs running during the meeting. It was emphasized that the
scholarship funds, made possible through mineral lease money, have a great impact on
the lives of individuals and the community as a whole.
