The Roger Brooks assessment presentation held at the Uintah Conference Center on Friday offered plenty of suggestions aimed at drawing visitors to stay and spend money in the area. First, Brooks offered a major compliment to the Uintah County Office of Travel and Tourism stating that their Wall of Bones Visitor Guide is the best guide they’ve seen in the United States. Brooks was amazed by the infrastructure in the area listing the USU/UBTech campus, rec center, Uintah County Library, and Conference Center as community offerings regularly seen in communities of at least a 150,000 people. Brooks stated that the area lacks an effective wayfinding system using signage to direct visitors to what the area offers. He also emphasized that the government agencies have “done an amazing job creating an outstanding quality of life for its citizens” and now “it is time for the business community to do its part” by investing in their stores, store fronts and signage. Agencies like the 5th to 5th Revitalization Committee, and the Uintah County Office of Travel and Tourism plan to use the information offered in the assessment to implement improvements where possible.
