If you’re not locking your vehicles and clearing them of valuables it’s pretty much the same as asking for trouble at this point. Agencies throughout the region are reporting the same thing, vehicle burglary is an ongoing problem. This week the Rock Springs Police Department provided a list of steps to make it more difficult for thieves to target your vehicle: Lock your doors and toolboxes; Remove keys and expensive items from the vehicle; Do not leave a spare key in or near your vehicle; Roll up your windows; Park in well-lit areas and consider installing a home surveillance system; Install an audible alarm system or anti-theft device; Install or activate a vehicle immobilizer system; And inventory your vehicle and record serial numbers of equipment. Uintah County has been hit as hard as anywhere. On Sunday, 51-year-old Steven Ford was arrested after a rash of vehicles were hit in the area of 400 West 750 South in Vernal. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, multiple doorbell ring cameras captured footage of a man, identified by police to be Ford, opening vehicle doors and stealing items. The stolen items were later located at Ford’s residence. Ford was arrested and charged. Unfortunately, there are many thieves throughout the region turning to burglarizing vehicles.
