Vernal City Council approved a purchase request from the Water Department of a replacement backhoe during their most recent city council meeting. Water Superintendent Mike Davis made the request stating that he was able to get more competitive prices than offered through the state contract. Vernal City had been utilizing a backhoe through a lease but the contract had ended in July. Davis explained that the water crews heavily rely on using the backhoe and recommended the purchase of a John Deere 310SL Backhoe for a bid of $85,700 dollars. Davis explained that other bids were over $90,000 dollars and he was confident they had found the best purchase price. After reviewing the bids and some discussion the city council approved the purchase.
