It may feel like spring in the valley but Ashley National Forest is reminding residents that winter recreation is still in season in the mountains. “Due to continued snowfall on higher elevations of the forest, winter recreation opportunities remain plentiful,” shares the announcement. “Some locations have perhaps the best conditions of all winter.” So what exactly are the activities being referred to? Reservations can still be made for overnight adventures at the Limber Flag and Grizzly Ridge Yurts, as well as the Colton and Trout Creek Guard Stations. Winter reservation status runs through the end of March and having a warm and cozy place to stay after enjoying a winter activity can be a great combination. Activities like snowmobiling, cross-county skiing, and snowshoeing are all popular and there is plenty of snow throughout much of the Forest for each. And if your adventure takes you to the area, the Carter Military Yurt is still available as a warming hut during winter.
