Uintah High School initiated a brief ‘shelter in place’ as a precautionary measure on Wednesday while law enforcement investigated a possible threat. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, on March 6th, “law enforcement received information that a juvenile had told another group of juveniles that he had a gun. The juvenile alleged to have a gun was not at school when the information was given to law enforcement. As a precautionary measure, Uintah High School initiated a shelter in place while law enforcement investigated the information. A short time after the shelter in place was initiated, law enforcement contacted the juvenile as he came on to school property, outside of the school. No firearm was located and the shelter in place was lifted. The sheriff’s office is still investigating the incident.” The shelter in place was initiated at 1:05pm and included the high school and LDS Seminary. USU Uintah Basin and UBTech were asked to keep Uintah students in those buildings until the shelter in place was lifted about 7 minutes later.
