Uintah School District Superintendent Rick Woodford gave a facilities report during Tuesday’s State of the District event. The old district office building that was located next to Vernal Middle School has been demolished. That space will eventually be used to extend the parking area of VMS so there is enough parking for events held at the VMS auditorium. The Maeser Training Center which is next to Maeser Elementary School is also scheduled for demolition. Woodford said this is because of the building’s age and to renovate it would require all new HVAC systems. He also gave an update on the Central Cove project. The new preschool construction on the USU property on Main Street has made great progress this winter with the foundation in and the flat work underway. It is anticipated to be complete in February of 2025. The facility will have space for USU faculty as a place to collaborate and “grow our own” early childhood teachers and special education teachers.
