Ashley National Forest has provided some additional information on the Ashley Karst Shaded Fuel Break project along the Red Cloud Loop Road. “Established fuel breaks control wildland fire safely by allowing fire resources more time to suppress or control fire,” shares the update. “Work has begun at the turn off to Ashley Twin Lakes and will work towards the turn off to Trout Creek Guard Station this year. Other work is taking place along the Red Cloud Loop Road as well that is producing firewood as a byproduct.” The efforts to reduce wildfire risk and firefighter safety also serves to limit the dangers a wildfire would pose to the local water supply. The project area encompasses the Vernal Municipal Watershed.
