The Uintah Animal Control and Shelter Special Service District statistical report for Fiscal Year 2023 provides evidence of what we all know. The people behind the shelter and animal control are working hard to serve the animals and people in Uintah County. Animal control officers responded to 2,620 calls for service and drove a total of 56,879 miles. A total of 1,612 small animals were impounded at the shelter, including 765 cats, 817 dogs, 4 ferrets, 5 hamsters, 10 guinea pigs, 9 turtles, 1 snake and 1 bat. Of these, 295 of the impounds were surrendered to the shelter by the pet owners. There were also 181 livestock animals impounded, including 14 horses, 26 cattle, 12 goats, 1 sheep, 30 poultry, 13 rabbits, and 85 from a hoarding situation. The animals taken into the shelter during Fiscal Year 2023 had many claimed, adopted, and released to 501c3 animal rescue groups. Some died after impound and a few were humanely euthanized for reasons including aggression or severe injury. The shelter received 1,625 visitors.
