A matter of business provided a great opportunity to highlight a wonderful program in the
community during Tuesday’s Uintah County Commission meeting. Uintah County
Library Director Sam Passey presented the Can Do Crew library cleaning contract for the
Commissioners approval. “The youth in this program really are a delight,” shared Passey,
who explained that District cuts to the program changed the contract last year from year
round to only school year months. So while he hopes some of the cuts can be restored in
the future, for now the contract presented was for the 9 month school year. The
Community Employment Placement Program, often called the Can Do Crew, provides
job training and life skills training for students with disabilities from age 16 to 22. CEPP
coordinator Sarah Luque(Luke) took the opportunity during Tuesday’s meeting to thank
the Commissioners for giving these students the opportunity to work in the community at
the library. “This initiative not only allows these students to contribute meaningfully to
their community,” shared Luque, “but it also equips them with valuable job, vocational,
and life skills, setting them on a path to independence and success.” The Commission
approved the contract in the amount of $18,900 dollars spread over 9 installments.
