It’s been a few weeks since the tragedy that occurred on New Year’s Eve resulting in the deaths of a mother and son in Uintah County and there is now no doubt as to what happened. Police reported that police and fire were dispatched to an active fire at a Vernal City residence where 42-year-old Vernal resident Mark Ryan Bingham was found deceased inside the residence during fire suppression efforts. While this occurred, Naples Police and EMS were dispatched to a residential care facility in Naples where 72-year-old Patricia Bingham was beyond life saving efforts as the result of a gunshot wound. It was confirmed that Mark Bingham pulled the trigger that killed his mother. This week, FOX 13 obtained a copy of the search warrant that authorized police to retrieve data from Mark Bingham’s devices. Police retrieved from his phone a delayed group text message scheduled to be sent later on that day stating, “By the time you get this, I will have murdered my mom and myself.” The motive behind the murder-suicide remains unclear leaving only an unthinkable tragedy for those mourning this loss to grapple with.
