The aftermath on Utah roads was pretty intense during and after Friday’s storm,
especially on Highway 40 near Strawberry Reservoir. Stories of heroic search and rescue
workers have been shared but these stories also include the selfless acts of fellow
travelers. One such example happened on Friday as a semi was traveling eastbound on
Highway 40 near the Soldier Creek turnoff. According to Utah Highway Patrol, this was
during the near white out conditions when visibility was really bad. The semi went off the
right side of the road and rolled down the embankment. Crude oil did leak during the
crash. Thankfully, passerbys saw the semi off the road and were able to go down and
extract the driver. They had to remove the windshield to get him out, shares Highway
Patrol, who also said the driver credits the people who got him out of the semi for saving
his life. The conditions being what they were, who knows how long he would have been
stuck there in the cold before being discovered. The crash is still in the process of being
fully cleaned up.
