Travel near Strawberry Reservoir was especially dangerous over the weekend with
weather conditions contributing to a fatal accident on Sunday. According to Utah
Highway Patrol, on Sunday at about 8:40pm, there was a group of snowmobilers in the
Chicken Creek parking area between Mile Marker 50 and 51 on Highway 40. They had
unloaded some snow machines and wanted to recover another snowmobile that had
broken down. As they were trying to cross Highway 40 from the parking lot there was a
double tanker semi passing through the area. One snowmobiler made contact with the
rear trailer of the semi and sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Weather
conditions were snowy and affecting visibility at the time. The identity of the
snowmobiler had not been released as of early Tuesday morning.
