Winter Conditions And Snow Squall Create Snow Pack Conditions Through Region

The winter storm did its worst with snow packed roads and slow travel conditions throughout much of the state on Wednesday but some areas had it much worse. National Weather Service shared that the cold front passing through Utah and southwest Wyoming brought snow squall conditions on Wednesday in the afternoon and evening. This means that the combination of heavy snow and wind brought a severe and rapid reduction in visibility as well as flash freeze conditions and blowing snow. Portions of Highway 40 saw severe conditions as did 191 in Indian Canyon. Utah Highway Patrol closed Indian Canyon as assistance was needed to help semis and vehicles through the conditions. UDOT issued a roadway restriction for both directions on Highway 191 for Mile Post 260 to 272 covering part of Duchesne County and Carbon County that began on Wednesday afternoon and is anticipated to remain in place until January 14th. The restriction requires approved traction devices for all semis. All travelers are urged to check conditions while making plans and to consider staying home when winter weather warnings are issued.
