The community is mourning a tragedy that occurred on Sunday that resulted in the deaths of a mother and son in Uintah County and a local Chief of Police has clarified what is believed to have occurred. Naples Police Chief Nathan Simper shared with KSL news on Monday that investigators believe that Mark Bingham pulled the trigger that killed Patricia Bingham in Naples City before he fled to Vernal. A joint press release on the incidents was issued on Monday from Naples City Police Department and Vernal PD. It stated that police and fire were dispatched to an active fire at a Vernal City residence where 42-year-old Vernal resident Mark Ryan Bingham was found deceased inside the residence during fire suppression efforts. While this occurred, Naples Police and EMS were dispatched to a residential care facility in Naples where 72-year-old Patricia Bingham was beyond life saving efforts as the result of a gunshot wound. The incidents remain under investigation. Naples Police Chief Simper’s statement that Mark Bingham pulled the trigger that killed his mother is the only specific connection publicly made so far by police about the incidents.
