DWR Cutthroat Slam Enjoys Banner Year With Colorado Cutthroat Medallion

The Colorado River cutthroat trout medallion as part of Utah’s Cutthroat Slam in 2023 has turned into a massively successful program that supports cutthroat trout conservation efforts. The Division of Wildlife Resources announced this week that the program had a record year and that a new medallion has been added for the enthusiastic anglers throughout the state. “This has been a banner year for the Utah Cutthroat Slam with the release of another new medallion and a record 245 completions this year,” shares DWR Sportfish Coordinator Trina Hedrick. “To date, there have been more than 1,302 completions of the Slam, and we are grateful to the many anglers who participate and help fund cutthroat trout restoration and outreach in Utah.” The Colorado River cutthroat trout featured on the first medallion offered in the Slam has local significance as that species of trout is native to the tributaries of the Green and Colorado Rivers. This is why that species was selected as the subject for the massive mural in Vernal unveiled on East Main Street last August. The mural is also about promoting the Utah Cutthroat Slam. The second medallion announced for the program features the Yellowstone cutthroat trout. Visit www.UtahCutthroatSlam.org to learn more.
