Duchesne County School District Gives Update On Special Education Records

The Duchesne County School District is offering a heads up to the community on records scheduled to be destroyed in case those affected would like to request copies. Special education records of students born in the year 1996 are scheduled to be destroyed after January 5th, 2024, in accordance with federal statutes. These statutes allow the records to be destroyed after the student turns 27 years old. The District explains that the need to destroy the records exists for multiple reasons, including the storage problem created with keeping the records indefinitely and the confidentiality of keeping outdated records. Parents, guardians, and former students of legal age may request copies of any special education record on file and anyone with questions regarding the records policy can call 435-725-4500.
