An intoxicated man was arrested last week after witnesses reported an assault that took place in a park in Ballard. The Affidavit of Probable Cause states that the report came in on December 9th of a male assaulting a female and that the man had a gun in his truck. One witness told police that he tried to intervene after seeing the female get hit, choked, and slapped but removed himself from the situation to avoid further escalation. The second witness told police that he was at the park when he saw the man arrive and begin yelling at the victim. The victim tried to leave but the man began striking her and then choked her. This witness said he also tried to intervene but was threatened and then stepped away to call 9-1-1. Following the assault, the victim was taken to the Emergency Department for injuries. Police spoke with 20-year-old Sammuel Jay Williams about the allegations that he assaulted a woman and he claimed that it was the victim that hit him and smashed a beer can on his face. A loaded rifle and compound bow were in Williams’ vehicle and he admitted that he had been drinking that evening and had driven to the location. Williams was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault, Intoxication, and Carrying a Firearm while Under the Influence of Alcohol.
