No, it’s not too early to be thinking of winter weather travel preparations. Local Utah Highway Patrol is already issuing the call to prepare for all conditions. According to Sgt. Kellie Oaks, it’s time to check tires for sufficient tread and air pressure as well as possibly purchase snow tires and new windshield wipers for the coming winter. “Prepare for possible time in inclement weather,” shares Sgt. Oaks, “with food, water, and blankets in the trunks.” UHP also recommends having jumper cables, a small shovel in the event your vehicle gets stuck, a first aid kit, flashlight with extra batteries, an emergency blanket, extra winter clothes, and even tire chains and a tow rope. Once your vehicle is prepped for travel and you have the essentials packed with you, it’s essential to drive safely in winter conditions. “Slowing down,” says Sgt. Oaks, “increasing following distance, and wearing seat belts go a long way in preventing crashes and highway fatalities.” For more tips on preparing for winter travel, visit
