Some local athletes were among those who took time on Saturday to respectfully retire American flags outside the Uintah Conference Center in Vernal. This was the 2nd year the setting was provided on Veterans Day to once again retire over 300 American flags. Working alongside community members, Scouts, and local service members, the Vernal Oilers hockey team wore their jerseys as they assisted in the special event. The team shared a slideshow on their Facebook page along with a reflection on the experience. “Though our players come from all over the world, we all get to participate in this great game that we love because of the sacrifice of those who came before us,” they shared. “It was our privilege to honor our Veterans. Thank you to our armed service men and women both past and present. May we always remember the sacrifices that have been made in our behalf.” Well done to the Vernal Oilers hockey team on representing the Basin so well.
