While the Diamond Mountain Road Construction project was intended to be complete this fall, an unexpected challenge has delayed its completion until the spring of 2024. According to a Uintah Special Service District 1 press release, contractors began working on the project in August and the presence of large rocks directly under the existing roadway required a change in plans and specialized equipment had to be brought in to mill and crush the rocks. This led to a delay in the stabilization process which prevented the sealcoat from being installed before lower temperatures set in. The Diamond Mountain Road Construction project was funded in 2021 through the Community Impact Board and aims to rehabilitate a particularly rough section of Diamond Mountain Road that was constructed decades ago with native asphalt surfacing but no underlying road base or other structural material. While engineers recommended a complete reconstruction, it was decided to utilize a much less-expensive rehabilitation method. This project is part of a larger, county-wide roadway maintenance program and it will be complete in the spring as soon as temperatures allow.
