Fire personnel will be performing the Racetrack Prescribed Fire Project on Saturday, October 21st. The project area is on the west side of Currant Creek Reservoir between Coop Creek Road, Chicken Creek Road, Layout Road and West Side Currant Creek Road. Forest Service shares that the primary objective is to create a mosaic pattern in the vegetation being burned, allowing for regeneration of different plant species, and breaking up the continuity of the vegetation. This promotes the health and diversity of different ecosystems. Qualified fire personnel will use arial and hand ignitions in the prescribed fire project areas. Fire personnel will monitor the fire. Smoke may also be visible and is expected to linger during the evening and early morning hours. The prescribed fire project area will be closed to all uses for public safety on the day of the burn and likely the day after.
