After the initial announcement and response from the public, Uintah County has announced that the public hearing for the proposed tax increase has been moved to the Uintah Conference Center to accommodate more people. The original notice stated that if the proposed budget is approved, Uintah County would increase its property tax budgeted revenue by 73.11 percent above last year’s property tax budgeted revenue, excluding eligible new growth. Information shared on the Uintah County website states that the last tax increase was in 2008 and that the increase is 12.28 percent of the total tax which includes more entities than just Uintah County. Uintah County Commissioner Brad Horrocks has publicly shared since the tax notice posted last week that he does not agree with having any kind of tax increase. When asked about the tax notice, Commissioner Sonja Norton shared that they continue to work on the preliminary budget and they look forward to sharing information and answering questions at the public hearing. The public hearing on the proposed tax increase will be held on November 7th at 6pm at the Uintah Conference Center. The 2024 budget is still being worked on with a 2024 budget public hearing scheduled for October 24th at 3:00pm
